Hyundai Motorsport cars are out in front with an early lead in the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, North America’s leading touring car race series. The defending IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) Champions, Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) dominated their return to IMSA action Friday, July 17th, winning the Advent Health 120 at Sebring International Raceway with the #21 Hyundai Veloster N TCR.

Hyundai Motorsport cars are out in front with an early lead in the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, North America’s leading touring car race series. The defending IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) Champions, Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) dominated their return to IMSA action Friday, July 17th, winning the Advent Health 120 at Sebring International Raceway with the #21 Hyundai Veloster N TCR.
After a lengthy rain delay, with an hour to go, the race re-started and pit stops commenced shortly after. Mark Wilkins took the reins of the #21 Hyundai and although challenging, intermittent conditions continued, Wilkins was unstoppable. New co-drivers for 2020, Wilkins and Gottsacker earned the team’s first win of the season. Mason Filippi and Michael Lewis raced to second in the #98, securing the team’s first 1-2 finish in IMSA. BHA customer team, Forty7 Motorsports finished third in the #47 Hyundai Veloster N TCR, making it an all Hyundai podium for the first time in IMSA history.
A fortnight later, at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, it was an all Hyundai podium once again. Hyundai now leads the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) Manufacturers championship by five points over Audi. The next round of IMPC competition is set for August 22 at Virginia International Raceway.
In Canada, in the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC), Hyundai has increased its presence in the series to two cars, with both a Veloster N TCR and an i30 N TCR. The vehicles are operated by long-time Hyundai dealer Bob Attrell and his son Connor Attrell, with parts and service support from BHA. Following the first, two-round event of the 2020 race season held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) on July 25-26, Bob Attrell is currently running in second place overall with a total of 242 points in #88 Veloster N TCR. The next round of CTCC competition is set for August 14-16 at Shannonville Motorsport Park.
In an additional push in the motorsports arena, the Veloster N road car was named the Official Pace Car of CTCC for the 2020 racing season.
